The Brimham Farmhouse Oak is a shiny natural European solid oak flooring product which has a total thickness of 18mm (1.8cm). 18mm is deemed as a standard thickness when it comes to solid wood flooring and it also allows you to sand and refinish the product approximately seven times, making your flooring look brand new again. This process is usually carried out once every 15-20 years resulting in the flooring having an extremely long existence, this is why wood flooring is often seen as a great investment.

The plank width is 150mm (15cm) and the lengths are random between 300-1800mm (30cm-180cm) allowing you to install the flooring in the ever so popular staggered pattern. Lengths which are random do minimise the amount of wastage you need to purchase. This solid oak flooring product has been carefully finished with seven layers (coats) of pearl satin UV lacquer totally sealing and protecting the surface from any wear and tear, making this product extremely durable, however as this is a natural product we would always advise you to mop up any spillages or splashes as quickly as possible.

The grade of this solid oak flooring is rustic meaning the planks will ooze with character showcasing some natural knots and imperfections. The joining profile on the product is tongue and groove meaning the planks will simply slide in together. There are three ways in which you can install this solid oak floor, the most popular would be to bond the flooring to the sub floor using an adhesive, secondly, just glue the joints together laying the floor just floating, and finally secret nailing the flooring to a wooden sub floor. All these methods are popular but one thing we would advise is to make sure the sub floor is level. This product is sourced from the finest quality forests out in Europe and comes with a 25 year manufacturers guarantee.

All matching profiles and accessories are available under the accessories tab on the website. So you can rest assured you can purchase all your flooring requirements from Luxury Flooring.

If you’re looking to install solid or engineered wood flooring by hand, here are a few things to bear in mind:

Tongue and Groove vs Click

Before you purchase your solid wood flooring, check which installation system it uses. There are two main types: ‘Tongue and Groove’ and ‘Click’.

• Tongue and Groove is more traditional, ensuring dimensional stability and strength. Along one edge, a ‘tongue’ protrudes from the centre of the board, whilst on the other, an indented groove is cut into the wood. This allows each board to fit together securely.

• Click installation is quick and hassle free. Like tongue and groove, click boards fit together, however, the click method allows the boards to lock into place, snapping together with a single movement.

Floating

Many fitters prefer floating their boards due to quick and easy installation. Floating does not require you to fix your flooring to a subfloor. Both click and tongue and groove planks can be fitted this way.

Adhesive is applied to the groove for added stability, and underlay is fitted underneath the board. This cuts down on labour, whilst ensuring that your boards are comfortable and strong underfoot.

Fixing

Fixing your flooring to the subfloor will encourage a long lifespan and minimal movement. Both Tongue and Groove and Click boards can be fitted this way, however, it is more popular with the former.

Depending on the material of your subfloor, boards can be fixed in a variety of ways. For solid surfaces such as concrete, adhesive is applied directly under the board. For wooden subfloors, the boards can be ‘secret nailed’ along the tongue. Both methods are equally beneficial, giving you outstanding results.
