If you desire a natural and unfinished look on your floor but with added protection, invisible oiled is the way to go. This provides the same protection as oil - by seeping into the wood to protect both the surface and deep within the wood from moisture - but cannot be seen. This is useful for those wanting the functional benefits of oil, but do not like the appearance.
An invisible oiled floor can look more rustic, warm, homely and traditional. This is because it appears to be in its most natural and authentic state, which is ideal if you are a purist who prefers the traditional look. Unlike unfinished floors which offer the same look however, invisible oiled floors can be used in high footfall homes with pets. Alternatively, you can buy an unfinished floor and finish it with invisible oil yourself at home, but we do not recommend this unless you are a professional floor fitter with experience in doing this.
The oiling also creates a more natural appearance compared to a lacquer, which also offers protection. If you would instead like protection but with a more unnatural shine, there are lacquered options also available. On parquet flooring however, which look traditional and rustic already, the oiled finish will look best amongst traditional decor. The unfinished look also looks less uniform and mass produced due to the sanding that occurs on site, making the parquet look authentically vintage as original parquet flooring would have been in the 17th century. This produces minor variations in look and texture, meaning a rugged and unique farmhouse feel is achieved that lacquered options will ruin.
The added texture through this finish also helps add grip to the surface, making it more versatile for rooms such as kitchens or bathrooms where spillages are common, or for those with children whose safety you are concerned about. If spillages and footfall cause damage, parquet allows for easy removal of individual blocks, meaning an entire floor does not need to be replaced or refinished if any disasters occur.
